What is Orthodontic Treatment?
Orthodontics is a dental area of expertise that involves the development, protection, and correction of tooth, bite, and jaw irregularities. Orthodontists have additional training in facial abnormalities and jaw disorders. The Indian Board of Orthondontics(IBO) ,recommends that every child have an orthodontic evaluation by the age of seven.
When do you need orthodontic Treatment?
A malocclusion, also known as a "bad bite," is an orthodontic problem. With proper orthodontic treatment, the following issues may be alleviated or minimised:
- Teeth that are misaligned, crooked, or crowded
- Teeth that are missing
- Excessive teeth
- Having an excessive overbite
- Having an excessive overjet
- Jaw misalignment or incorrect position
- A problem with the jaw joint(TMJ)
Different Types of Braces:
Braces, also known as fixed orthodontic appliances, are classified into three types:
- Metal brackets, clear or tooth-coloured(ceramic), that are bonded to the teeth
- Metal SELF-LIGATING(3M), CERAMIC SELF-LIGATING BRACES(TOOTH COLOUR), that are bonded to the teeth
- Lingual brackets that attach to the back of the teeth and are hidden from view
Note: Wires are used in all three types to move the teeth to the desired position.
