Wisdom teeth are the back teeth in your mouth (the third molar teeth). They usually appear (erupt) in their late teens or early twenties. Some wisdom teeth do not fully emerge and become lodged (or impacted) on neighbouring teeth or bone. This frequently results in inflammation of the gum covering your teeth. Others results in decay of the impacted teeth or the adjacent teeth.
The majority of upper wisdom teeth can be easily removed with a local anaesthetic. The removal of lower wisdom teeth can be more time consuming.
Splitting the gum to expose your wisdom tooth, removing bone around your tooth, and separating your tooth with a drill are all options for wisdom tooth removal.
