Intra Oral Scanners
An intraoral scanner is a device that takes a direct optical impression of the teeth. A light source is projected onto the area to be scanned by the scanner. Imaging sensors record the photos, which are then processed by scanning software to create a 3D surface model.
Procedure For THE DIGITAL IMPRESSION:
- A picture of the tooth/teeth preparation is taken by the clinician. An intraoral scanner is placed in the patient's mouth and moved over the surface area of the tooth or teeth to obtain an impression. The image will be displayed on a chairside monitor as it is recorded.
- A digital impression of prepared teeth takes around a minute and a half to capture. It just takes 45 seconds to obtain an impression of the teeth on the opposing arch.
- The physician can magnify and alter the real-time image for more detail as he or she reviews it.
- An intra Oral Scanner can be used for fabricating Crowns, Bridges, Invisible Aligners, Dental Implants, Complete and Partial Dentures, Paediatric crowns, space maintainers and surgical guides.
